Traditionally, ceilometers are used for cloud height measurement at airports. The SST3D provides several features not available in standard ceilometers including full sky scanning, glide slope visibility measurement, and custom scanning options. Why look at a single point in the sky when you can scan the entire hemisphere? Scanning the entire hemisphere gives a higher fidelity measurement of could ceiling variability as well as sector cloud ceiling values. In addition, it provides a quicker response to changing conditions.
